America has real enemies. Enemies who will kill you if given the chance. They don't care about who you are, or where you're from, all that matters to them is that you are their enemy.
And you can forget that crap you see in the movies, there will be no glib witticisms, or monologuing while you think up a daring escape. They will pretty much just kill you dead. There is a flip side to the above topic. As I said, America has real enemies, and you, as a member of the military, will be expected to kill those enemies. As a soldier, you're not a diplomat. It's not your job to talk to people, or reason with them.
Whether it's prepping ordinance bombs for use in combat, or taking part in small arms gun battles, you're not trying to "wound" your enemy, you are trying to kill him.
Let that sink in for a moment. It will be your job to take lives. While you may have a non -combat job, the enemy doesn't care about that, and they will shoot at lawyers and cooks the same as they will an infantryman.

Serving in the military, you will also experience a bond with your coworkers that no civilian job can offer. Above everything else, you will have joined a long list of men and women who have put aside their own personal comfort, safety, and well being, in order to protect and defend the rights and freedoms of others.

Things to Consider Before Joining the US Military
As a military spouse, I can say that I truly appreciate the sacrifices you made in your service to all of us. An important hub for those who are thinking about "joining" the military. It's an important reality check for them. Wanted to say thank you for such an awesome post. I am enlisting in the Marine Corps, I already have a four year degree and most people think I am joining for the benefits but I am enlisting not becoming an officer.
This is something I want to do if I die in enlist I choose to go army there and risk dying for this country. God Bless and thank you before for such an informative post. They're first couple weeks in basic straightened them out. Make a list of things you need to know about and get informed. What do you want to do in the future? After being in the military for a while, some decide that they would like to make a career out of military life.
Others decide that they would like to the on and pursue their education or a career in the civilian world with the skills they picked up while serving. Have your future in mind when selecting a job when you enlist. Make sure that you will leave the service with the proper tools to be what in life.

Doesn't matter what you want all that matters is what the government wants from you. My old man was terminally ill and trying to get home was a nightmare, if I had been a civilian I could have just quit I have had a good career with the military, I'm releasing in the next few months because this has started to really bother me.
Try to somewhat blend in. Be respectful of the locals. Everybody knows you're military by your hair, walk, mannerisms, etc.
Get rid of that sense of entitlement since you're in the military.
