How to calibrate a new laptop battery
Besides that, when purchasing a battery you must pay attention to the manufacturing date. Another quick fix is to power off the laptop and then hold down the power button for 10 to 15 seconds.
This could take up to 3 minutes, depending on your computer and connection speed.Proper laptop battery usage guide
Thank you for your patience. How does HP install software and gather data? Calibrate the battery while the computer is in use. Calibrate the battery while the computer is not in use. Calibrating the battery Calibrating the battery means recharging the battery to its maximum capacity and resetting the battery gauge to accurately display the level of charge.
The Windows battery meter in the system tray might not accurately display the charge level of the battery. Select Run once and press enter.
A quick battery check is carried out and it says it takes two minutes, but it was more like 30 seconds on my computer. If a problem with the battery is found, then the Battery Calibration test is performed. Different computers use different methods to reset the battery or calibrate it.
Another quick fix is to power off the laptop and then hold down the power button for 10 to 15 seconds. If you have an old Lenovo laptop, plug in the power adapter and charge it up. Click the Perform Reset button. With a newer Lenovo laptop, run Energy Management and click the gear icon. Click the Start button next to Battery Gauge Reset. You need to connect to the mains power and close all applications before clicking the Continue button. It takes several hours to run, so be patient. No matter how well you treat your laptop battery, its capacity will diminish eventually.
No matter how top of the line your computer was at the time you purchased it, its built-in power meter can sometimes give you incorrect estimates as to how much battery life you have left. Even if you let your battery discharge a little bit before plugging it back in, it might not always help to extend battery life. What tends to happen is that it tends to confuse the battery meter.
Unavoidable factors such as age, heat and typical usage will decrease its capacity.
How to Recalibrate Your Laptop Battery
Manufacturers generally recommend calibrating the battery every two to t three months. This helps keep your battery readings accurate.
Laptop batteries contain a capacity gauge that allows us to know the exact amount of energy stored. Some laptops include in their BIOS, tools to recalibrate this battery gauge, which is nothing more than a full discharge followed by a full charge. So to calibrate the gaugeit should be performed, in every 30 discharge cycles, a full discharge non-stopfollowed by a also, non-stop, full charge.
An inaccurate gauge can lead to the fact that the the battery capacity values are are wrong. For example, you can use the laptop for some minutes in a day, using half its capacity e then fully charge it. If you did the same thing in the next day, it would be counted a discharge cycle and not two, so it may take several days until a full discharge cycle is completed. After the calibration process, the reported wear level is usually higher than before. This is natural, since it now reports the true current capacity that the battery has to hold charge.
